Sitdropstay Dog Training are the Northern Rivers in-home dog whispering and dog behaviour specialists. We believe we offer the most advanced and effective dog training system available in Australia today. Sitdropstay was created with a mission to take dog training and behaviour beyond the naive use of either force or treat based communication to a more respectful, effective and natural approach which understands and utilizes the interconnection of mind, energy and spirit between all of life. We have revolutionised the art of dog behaviour and training into a natural, simple and easy to understand philosophy that dramatically improves both results and training time

Your local dog trainers are Sitdropstay Head Trainer and Director George Lygidakis and partner Emma Tucker. George and Emma have years of experience in dog training and dog behaviour and would love to help you achieve a happy and balanced pack. They believe that understanding your relationship with your dog and how you communicate with them is a much more effective approach to creating a stable and co-operative dog than simply training them.

Please have a look at the Sitdropstay website for further information or call us on 1300 306 887 or 0402 094 120 or send your details through the contact page and we will contact you shortly.

Testimonials

We cannot thank you enough for your help with our two 5 month old Malamutes last Friday, the difference in them and to our lives is amazing. Before your visit we were so desperate we seriously considered giving one of them away because together they were out of control; they snapped & snarled, jumped and barked constantly, to the point that we were becoming frightened they would bite us. With the invaluable knowledge you have given us they are transforming into calm, obedient and most importantly, likable dogs. We not only owe you our unreserved thanks but also our “first born” as you have achieved in one visit what we thought was going to be impossible, you have truly changed our lives. PETA & JOE ELASHKAR NERANG, QLD

Emma you came to visit me and Toohey and I just want to thank you. I am actually enjoying my walks and playtime with Toohey. Toohey had already been sent to boot camp but the tactics used to achieve this training I believe were built on brut force, so the trainer and my partner could manage her but I could not. Honestly, after only 2 hours with you I could relate to all you advised and demonstrated and found it so much easier to put into practice. Your training methods far out way those previously taught to me at boot camp. I just seemed to click to all you conveyed and it all works for me. I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, I love my dog Toohey so it’s great to be able to come home now and look forward to our playtime and walks together. My partner asked me “was the training worth the money I paid” and I said whole heartedly “Yes” every cent and I would recommend your training services to anyone. MARG HENNINGS – NERANG QLD

We are considered by many to be leaders in the field of dog training but on several occasions with both work and home dogs I have used George’s services because his general knowledge of animal behaviour far outstrips ours. MILITARY POLICE DOG HANDLER, RAAF

As we enter summer in Australia, it’s important to remember that while humans can usually keep cool indoors, pets cannot always escape the heat with their fur coats and their naturally higher body temperature. Here are some tips to avoid heatstroke and help make summer be more enjoyable for your pet!

Always have fresh, cool water available for your dog to drink in the shade, preferably in a bucket made of tin rather then plastic as it stays cooler for longer.

Make sure your dog has access to shaded area so it can escape the sun and avoid sun burn.

Look into sunscreens designed for canines to apply to areas with less fur such as the nose and tips of ears. Dogs are susceptible to sun burn just like humans but only sunscreens designed especially for dogs should be used as their skin is very different to ours and some ingredients in regular sunscreens may cause sensitivity and irritation to dogs skin.

When walking your dog in summer, it’s best to take them when the sun is down as they get overheated easily. Areas with grass rather then pavement is also more suitable as their paws may get burnt if pavement is hot.

Depending on the breed and coat of your dog, it may be beneficial to look into getting your dog shaved. This is not ideal for all breeds though as sometimes the coat’s natural insulation will be more efficient in regulating a dogs temperature.

Invest in a cooling coat or mat. Silver Eagle Outfitters have great products.

An article found in The Advertiser on Friday, the 26th of August, has shown some interesting research on the early separation of dogs.

“Puppies turn mean if separated early

Separating puppies from their litter too early can turn them into aggressive dogs, Italian scientists say.
They are significantly more likely to display problematic behavior as adults. Researchers studied 140 dogs, aged between 18 months and seven years. Half had been taken from the litter and adopted between the ages of 30 and 40 days, and half had been taken at 60 days. Owners filled in questionnaires on their pets, including such problematic behavior as destructiveness, excessive barking, possessiveness, attention seeking, aggressiveness, play biting, fearfulness on walks and reaction to noises.

The scientists found those behaviors were all more common in dogs who had been separated from their litter at between 30 and 40 days old. Behavior was also worse in dogs who had been removed early and placed in pet shops.”

What is your opinion? do you think there is any truth to this article?

It is apt that I start this blog with my thoughts on Cesar Milan and his current tour of Australia. He is a man I greatly admire for his courage and for-site and for his deep knowledge and understanding of dog behaviour. I believe he is the most influential Dog Trainer (behaviourist) of our time. He has started a revolution in the way we understand and train our dogs.

At a time when food reward was seen as the answer to dog training he has again highlighted the importance of pack leadership in our relationship with our dogs. I believe that Dog Whispering or communicating in their language, is the way forward in dog training and have long warned about the overuse of food reward training.

Cesar will be appearing in Australia on the following dates:

Sunday, June 7 Burswood Dome, Perth
Friday, June 12 Hisense Arena, Melbourne
Sunday, June 14 Acer Arena, Sydney
Friday, June 19 Brisbane Entertainment Centre

Check his official website for more information.
